Chemicals, Pharmceuticals and Biotechnology

Mechanical separation processes find application in a large number of processes in the chemical and pharmaceutical industry and biotechnology. The quality of the separation process is frequently of crucial importance for the quality of the end products as well as for the economy and environmental compatibility of the process.

Successful solutions from the Westfalia Separator product line find application for a wide range of product applications for centrifugal technology both in organic and inorganic chemistry, such as:

  • Acids
  • Lacquers
  • Mercerizing solution
  • Barium sulphate
  • Latex
  • Nitro compounds
  • Catalysts
  • Lye
  • Peroxides
  • Extraction of metal
  • Luminous matter
  • Salts
  • Resins
  • Solvents
  • Silver recovery

In petrochemistry and plastic production, for example:

  • HDPE (High density polyethylene)
  • PVC
  • Polymer solutions
  • Terephtal acid
  • Polycarbonate
  • White oil

For base substances such as:

  • Calcium carbonate
  • Kaolin (china clay)
  • Pigments

In the pharmaceutical industry and biotechnology for the recovery and processing of:

  • Antibiotics
  • Human blood
  • Alkaloids
  • Insulin
  • Aromatic hydrocarbons
  • Morphine
  • Aromatics
  • Vaccines
  • Plant extracts
  • Enzymes
  • Rose oil
  • Extracts from organs
  • Synthetic pharmaceutical products
  • Glucose isomerase
  • Herbal medicines
  • Vitamins
  • Hormones
  • Recovery of bioproducts from genetically engineered micro-organisms

Oils and Fats Recovery

Modern processes for the recovery of oils and raw fats are characterised by the widespread application of centrifugal clarification and separation techniques. By this means, optimum clarification and separation is assured throughout the entire process, and the requirements arising from pollution control considerations are fully satisfied.

Westfalia Separator supplies centrifuges as stand-alone machines or integrated in complete processing lines for the continuous recovery and processing of e.g.

  • Animal bones
  • Cooking broths
  • Liver oil
  • Avocado oil
  • Edible fat
  • Olive oil
  • Blood meal
  • Fish meal, fish oil
  • Palm oil
  • Blood plasma
  • Flotation sludge
  • Technical fats
  • Bone meat
  • Gelatine
  • Wool fat
  • Cocoa butter
  • Hide glue
  • Slaughterhouse waste
  • Fat separator contents
  • Machine leather cuttings

Starch

Westfalia Separator is a technology leader in starch recovery. New process techniques are continually being developed in close co-operation with the starch industry in order to make them efficient, economical and environment-friendly. Centrifugal separation technology is of central economic significance in this field and allows environment-friendly processing that ensures optimum utilization of the raw materials.

Fields of application include:

  • Maize starch
  • Maize gluten
  • Wheat starch
    • A- and B- starch
    • Wheat gluten
    • Bran
    • Protein coagulate
  • Potato starch
    • Potato pulp
    • Potato gratings
    • Potato protein
  • Tapioca / manioc starch
  • Rice starch
  • Pea starch
  • Soybean proteins

In the meantime, new fields of application have been and are being opened up outside the food sector such as biodegradable packings. A big advantage of the starch in native or modified state over synthetic products on a crude oil base is its environmental friendliness.
